Cuba wants to do business with Dominican Republic

Speaking at the Listin Diario breakfast meeting yesterday, Monday 13 April 2015, the Cuban Ambassador in the Dominican Republic, Carlos de la Nuez Lopez, revealed that Dominican businesses have shown interest in investing in Cuba. He mentioned expressions of interest by the Vicini Group, which owns the Banco de Progreso.

De la Nuez highlighted that Cuban investment law is very favorable to investors and offers a broad range of opportunities.

He added that although bilateral trade relations were excellent, no agreements are in place for reducing customs tariffs and increasing trade. In fact, the Dominican Republic was the only country in Latin America with which Cuba does not have a trade agreement like the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI).

He highlighted that the lifting of the embargo by the United States opens up new possibilities and expressed hope that a trade agreement between the two countries would succeed now.
