Seven thousand Dominicans have signed an online petition addressed to the rector of APEC for Supreme Court Judge Alejandro Moscoso Segarra to be fired from his post as dean of the university’s law school. Representatives of the civil society group New Democracy delivered the document to rector Radhames Mejia yesterday, Monday 13 April 2014. In a press release, the group says the request was motivated by what they described as the judge’s “dishonor and lack of ethics.” They add that he is “part of the moral and legality impunity that is affecting the Dominican judiciary.”
According to the petition, which was posted on change.org, this request is part of a series of actions by responsible citizens who want to prevent the systematic reproduction of teaching that goes against morals and ethics as guidelines for the exercise of law.
The petition says a professional who is responsible for training future lawyers, guarantors of justice, cannot be the object of so much questioning for being part of a group that has eroded the very foundations of justice.
