Multi million drug haul at Caucedo

The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) has confiscated a drug shipment hidden in 1,248 packages weighing 1kg each at the Caucedo Multimodal Port. Colonel Braulio de la Rosa of the DNCD Center for Information and Joint Coordination (CICC) said that the cargo has an estimated street value of EUR70 million, or around RD$12 billion. The drugs were found in a container on the Belle Schulte that had arrived from Panama and was bound for the Belgian port of Antwerp, with the Netherlands as its final destination.

DNCD drug detection dogs at the port found the drugs in a container full of cans of beans.

So far there have been no arrests but the authorities say that an investigation is underway.

The DNCD highlights that this latest blow to drug trafficking came just hours after President Danilo Medina made a call for consumer markets to share more of the high cost of combating the scourge of drug trafficking.
