A small plane crashed into a tree at 8:15am yesterday, Monday 20 April 2015 in the Cocotal golf and vacation home development in Punta Cana.
According to the president of the Airplane Accident Investigation Commission, Colonel Enmanuel Souffront Tamayo, the plane was en route to Arroyo Barril airport in Samana from Punta Cana International Airport when it crashed, killing all on board.
Apparently the pilot had told the control tower that he had an engine fire and according to witnesses he tried to land the plane on the golf course when it crashed into a tree and burst into flames.
Seven people were on board, four men and three women. Reports of the passengers’ names and nationalities are confused. Dominican pilot Hector Soriano, who was from San Pedro de Macoris, is the only one whose identity has been confirmed.
Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia expressed his regret at the deaths and offered the Ministry’s support to the relatives.
