The executive director of the National Energy Commission (CNE) Juan Rodriguez Nina says that air conditioning use accounts for 40% of the country’s entire power consumption. He urged people to use air coolers more efficiently and said that a pilot program being implemented in government offices could mean savings of between US$35 and US$40 million. The program is receiving technical support from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
