The Central Electoral Board (JCE) says that 1.3 million people still have to renew their identity cards. As of 23 April 2015, a total of 6,021,247 citizens had been issued the new card that is required for citizens to vote in the 15 May 2016 election. Of the total, 5.8 million are eligible to vote in the election. The total includes 3,044,634 (50.57%) women and 2,976,613 (49.43%) men. It also includes 25,997 foreigners, 32,746 police agents, 47,827 military personnel and 19,978 minors.
Of the total, 130,847 citizens received the document from JCE offices at Dominican missions abroad.
A total of 7,373,568 people had to renew their cards, meaning that 1.3 million people have yet to request the new card.
