Luis Abinader 70.24%, Hipolito Mejia 28.61%

The National Organizing Commission of the 17th Convention of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) announced last night, Monday 27 April 2015 that the final vote count showed 221,306 votes (70.24%) in favor of Luis Abinader, 90,130 votes (28.61%) for Hipolito Mejia, 2,439 votes for Geanilda Vasquez (0.77%), and 1,207 (0.38%) for Amaury Justo Duarte. A total of 315,028 valid votes were cast during the primary, out of a potential 2.8 million votes.

The Commission issued the final bulletin at 7:45pm. Of the total vote of 321,913, 6,831 votes or 2.12% were annulled.

On Monday, 27 April 2015 Mejia conceded defeat to Abinader, his former vice presidential candidate in the 2012 presidential election.

The Commission members were former Vice President Milagros Ortiz Bosch, Hugo Tolentino Dipp, Sonia Guzman, Jose Garcia Ramirez, Cesar Sanchez, Antonio Almonte, Antonio Rodriguez and Jose Ramon Holguin.

The party announced that the next step was to launch a series of discussions under the umbrella of “Convergence for a Better Country, the coalition of opposition parties that would match the yet-to-be-selected PLD candidate in the May 2016 election. The PLD has been in government consecutively since 2004. Frente Amplio, which elected Fidel Santana as its presidential candidate, is also taking part in the Convergence.
