The Dominican ambassador in Washington, Jose Tomas Perez has warned via his Twitter social media account that the PLD could only compete successfully in the 2016 presidential election with President Danilo Medina as its candidate. The 2010 Constitution bans consecutive re-election, preventing President Medina from running unless it is changed. The PLD Political Committee recently agreed to present a motion for changing the Constitution so that Medina may run again.
