On Monday, 10 May 2015 in the Vatican, Vice President Margarita Cedeno met with Pope Francis along with Rafael de Jesus Minaya, a boy from Gurabo in Santiago, when participating in the Peace Factory event where the Pope met 7,000 children from all over the world.
As reported in Diario Libre, the boy told Pope Francis that he had been born with heart problems, which have meant he has been unable to live a normal life, as he is always ill. The Pope said he was moved by his story and said that he did not like to hear it said that these children were disabled, as they had special abilities.
The Vice President said that she was happy and delighted that the boy could meet the Pope and said that his story was a reflection on the perseverance of Dominicans and their ability to overcome obstacles.
The boy, Rafael de Jesus was operated on with the help of Cedeno de Fernandez, the government of Catalonia and the Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona.
Vice President Margarita Cedeno was also in Italy to participate on 7 May 2015 in the inauguration of the Dominican stand at Expo Milano, the 2015 World Fair.
