Dominican Week in the United States

Dominican Week in the United States (SemDomUSA), an initiative organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR), was launched yesterday, Monday 11 May 2015 with the raising of the Dominican flag at the home of the Dominican ambassador in Washington DC, Jose Tomas Perez.

Around 50 members of a delegation that had travelled from the Dominican Republic met with other guests in the garden of the residence to kick off the weeklong activities that seek to strengthen links between the Dominican Republic and the United States and improve the image of the DR in the eyes of its main commercial partner. The United States ambassador in the Dominican Republic, James W. Brewster and the Dominican ambassador to the Organization of American States, Pedro Berges, were also present at the event.

Perez said that as part of his agenda he is working on the implementation of the DR-CAFTA trade agreement that so far has not had the impact for the Dominican Republic that was expected when it was signed. AMCHAMDR president Gustavo Tavares said that their agenda included initiatives aimed at promoting the transformation of the country into a regional logistics hub and manufacturing platform.
