The Migration Agency says that foreigners who did not register under the National Foreigner Legalization Plan (PNRE) and whose migratory status remains irregular can request free assistance for voluntary return to their countries. The Dominican government is providing free ground transport to take these foreigners to the seaport, airport or border point of their choosing and assist them in contacting their consular agents. The assisted voluntary return services will be offered from 22 June through 6 July 2015, every day except Sunday. Transportation is available from the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center in Santo Domingo, and the governor’s offices in the provinces of La Altagracia (Higuey), San Pedro de Macoris, Santiago de los Caballeros, Valverde (Mao), San Juan de la Maguana and Barahona.
Foreigners who opt for this voluntary exit plan will not be subject to the penalties established in the ruling for General Migration Law 285-04. The Ministry of Interior and Police assures that they would be allowed to return to the Dominican Republic after applying under established procedures. For more information, contact the Migration Agency at 809 508-2555.
The PNRE expired on 17 June 2015 and the Ministry of Interior and Police has 45 days or until 1 August to report on the status of the more than 288,000 foreigners who registered.
