Haul of a hundred kilos of cocaine

The United States Coast Guard has arrested five assumed drug dealers and confiscated 100 kilos of cocaine in a boat flying the Guyanese flag in the Caribbean Sea south of the Dominican Republic.

The five suspects, two Guyanese and three Jamaicans, were taking to Puerto Rico where they will be charged with drug trafficking.

The authorities spotted the fishing vessel called ‘Chrispoph” on 2 July 2015, 270 kilometers south of the Dominican Republic. US Coast Guard officers boarded the ship after having obtained authorization from the government of Guyana. The interdiction became a rescue mission as well as the authorities noting that the boat was rapidly taking on water, quickly transferred the crew and cocaine to the Coast Guard cutter. The cocaine is believed to have a street value of US$3.2 million.
