Two of Santo Domingo?s most impressive addresses have become what is being called ?Gastronomic Avenues?. The Gustavo Mejia Ricart and the Roberto Pastoriza contain some of the most highly touted bars and restaurants in the city. Once located in quiet residential areas of Naco and Piantini, and highly regarded addresses among capitol dwellers, the avenues are now lined with over 50 bars and eateries. Starting at Winston Churchill and reaching almost to the Olympic Center the avenues are now congested with traffic and sometimes look more like parking lots than residential avenues. Names such as Beer House Cafe, Marocha, Bizarro, Praia and David Crockett line the Gustavo Mejia Ricart, along with twenty other establishments. Fellini, Taboo Bamboo Tequila Jones and Agio are some of the thirty establishments that line Roberto Pastoriza. Such new commercial activity has not been without growing pains. Property values are now reaching RD$25,000 pesos per square meter, parking is extremely scarce, and the noise levels are also a continual bother to residents. So is crime. ?We have been robbed four times over the past five years? said resident Manuel Antonio Gonzalez. Gonzalez said that it was a frustrating situation.
