The severe drought that is affecting the country will have serious consequences for rice producers, said the Director of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI), Olgo Fernandez. Fernandez says the situation affecting rice farmers is grave, as he pointed out that only farmers in Bajo Yuna and Yuna Camu rice growing areas have enough water for their crops. He advised farmers not to plant where water is not guaranteed.
Fernandez assured the public that due to a record harvest this past Spring, the country has sufficient reserves of rice plenty in warehouses throughout the country.
