National Theater renovations to start in December

National Theater director Nini Caffaro has told Diario Libre that the long overdue renovation of the country’s 42-year old theater will start in December 2015.

Since last year, the theater has been affected by water leaks during heavy rainfall. The renovation program will include roof repairs, a new central air conditioning system, and new carpeting and theater seats in the main hall and the lobby. The elevators and bathrooms will also be refurbished. As reported, the renovations, which are expected to cost more than RD$100 million, will also include updates to the electrical installations, backstage facilities and new lighting and sound systems.

The theater will close for renovation at the beginning of December.

The renovation was first announced in August 2014 but postponed until this year. The prolonged drought has also helped shows to continue at the National Theater this year.
