After reaching hurricane status, Danny was downgraded to a tropical storm over the weekend of 22-23 August 2015. It is now expected to cross over from Puerto Rico as a tropical depression.
The bad news is that it will not be bringing enough of the much-needed rains by the time it reaches the Dominican Republic on Wednesday 26 or Thursday 27 August 2015. The DR Meteorological Office (Onamet) director Gloria Ceballos says that they are forecasting less than two inches of rain for the country. The NHC-NOAA website says that it is expected to bring two to four inches of rain over the Leeward Islands, the US and British Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico through Tuesday, 25 August 2015.
The Dominican Republic, nevertheless, is monitoring the storm. The center is expected to affect the southern coastline, crossing over Barahona. Onamet has issued a green alert for coasts from Cabo Engano in the east to Manzanillo in the northwest and Pedernales in the southwest.
Meanwhile, Onamet is also forecasting high temperatures of 35C prior to the arrival of the tropical depression.
