DR plays in FIBA Americas Cup today

The Dominican Republic’s final roster for 2015 FIBA Americas Championship (Mexico City (31 August-12 September) is: Eulis Baez, James Feldeine, Luis Flores, Francisco Garcia, Juan Jose Garcia, Victor Liz, Rigoberto Mendoza, Orlando Sanchez, Edward Santana, Edgar Sosa, Gerardo Suero and Eloy Vargas. Head coach Kenny Atkinson announced the team roster after the Dominican participation in the Jenaro “Tuto” Marchand Continental Cup in Puerto Rico, where the DR lost its three matches.

The Dominican Republic will be aiming to reach the final of the 12-team FIBA Americas Cup to clinch a spot in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.

The DR plays Mexico today, Monday 31 August 2015 in its opening game of the 12-team tournament.

The FIBA Americas Cup plays will be in two groups:

Group A: Canada, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Venezuela

Group B: Mexico, Panama, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Uruguay

The two teams that reach the Final of the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship will qualify directly for the 2016 Rio Olympics, while the teams that come in third, fourth and fifth will secure places in the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQTS). This changes if Brazil finishes among the top two. In that case, the third-place team will advance to the Rio Games. If they finish in the third to fifth places, then the sixth-placed team will advance to the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
