A total of 369 people have committed suicide so far this year, according to official figures. The number is lower than the 417 registered during the same period last year. Hanging is the main method with 222 (60%), followed by poisoning with 71 (19%), firearms with 57 (16%), jumping from a height 5 (4%) and body cutting or stabbing 4 (1%).
This year the month with the highest number of suicides was August, with 62.
Doctors are reporting on the recent case of a pregnant 17-year old woman who jumped off the Maximo Gomez overpass and miscarried as a result of her injuries. The communications student is still in a serious condition, despite many operations.
