A Polish registered sailboat, Polaris sunk off the northeastern province of Maria Trinidad Sanchez near Cabrera on Saturday, 12 September 2015. The Armada reported that its captain, Grzegorz Tulisow was slightly injured. As reported, the 15.8-meter yacht left from Samana on Friday at 5pm and was en route to Luperon, in Puerto Plata province. After experiencing mechanical problems the captain anchored it near Cabo Frances Viejo and used a dinghy to reach the shore, suffering a slight injury to his leg in the process.
