Motorcycles with RD$1,000 down

The governmental Plan Renove delivered more than 3,000 motorcycles obtained
with a first RD$100-million loan taken on the state. Fabio Ruiz, president of
the program, explained that the motorcycles can be applied for by making a down
payment of RD$1,000. The plan created a controversy after Ruiz stated publicly
that the motorcycles were for those who would vote and campaign for the
re-election of President Hipolito Mejia. Upon delivering the motorcycles, Ruiz
said he expected the beneficiaries to show their gratitude for the PRD by voting
for Mejia because ?you know that the hands that give, await.?
The Mejia administration has promised to distribute 100,000 motorcycles, should
it be re-elected, for which it would contract a US$10-million loan from the
Taiwanese government.
