Speaking at the PUCMM National Dialogue Forum, as televised by Channel 37 from the school?s auditorium yesterday, PLD candidate Leonel Fernandez said that education would be the top priority in a government of his. He spoke about combating the digital divide and training for teachers. He said he would import teachers from Spain, Colombia and Chile to improve educational levels here and would promote reading, learning of a second language, mathematics and sciences to create the conditions for Dominicans to become the scientists and engineers of the future, as reported in El Caribe.
Addressing the issue of whether he would honor the certificates of deposit in the Central Bank, the 16 May election forerunner said: ?Without a doubt, we have to honor those certificates because this is about acquired rights of certificate holders. There is no discussion there, despite the manipulation this has received in the media,? he said, referring to a PRD campaign TV spot.
Fernandez also spoke about new international partners and explained how he would strengthen relations with Brazil, Europe, China, Taiwan, India and South Africa.
Fernandez also favors efforts to attract international celebrities to increase Dominican exposure in international tourism source markets. He said a government of his would have zero tolerance for sexual tourism and child prostitution, as reported in El Caribe.
