Customs director general Fernando Fernandez has denied that the Dominican government was granting exemptions to companies in benefit of leading members of the ruling PLD party. Fernandez says that nothing has happened that is not normal with these companies, as reported in El Dia.
Central Electoral Board (JCE) member Jose Angel Aquino is investigating claims that the transporter union CNTU was importing vehicles. Fernandez said that the CNTU does not have a registered national taxpayer (RNC) number and thus cannot import anything.
Despite the denials by the government, social media and the press have been presenting evidence that the imports are taking place.
