Metro International, the Swedish-created free daily, now has a Dominican edition, Metro RD. During a press conference at the Santo Domingo Sheraton yesterday, Monday 28 September 2015, the editor of the new publication, Homero Figueroa announced it would have a circulation of 100,000 and copies would be distributed at key points in Santo Domingo from Monday to Friday. It joins Diario Libre and El Dia, the two other leading free daily newspapers with 100,000+ circulations. Figueroa says that the Metro daily has a global readership of 17.7 million, is printed in 13 languages, and there are 78 editions in 125 cities around the world.
The Dominican edition of the newspaper, Metro RD, is registered in Panama under the name of Successful Media, with the editor’s brother Pedro Figueroa as treasurer.
In its Monday 28 September 2015 issue, Diario Libre reports that according to rumors, the newspaper will be printed at Colorin, a company with links to senator Felix Bautista and at Editora de Revistas, a subsidiary of Listin Diario, where senator Bautista publishes a weekly column.
The first edition of Metro RD was due out today, Tuesday 29 September 2015.
