The PLD Political Committee met yesterday evening, Monday, 5 October 2015 to discuss the alliances and candidacies for the 2016 elections.
During the session, the Committee approved the rules for internal elections and discussed the progress made in the negotiations with the other parties.
The Political Committee approved the use of opinion polls for selecting the candidates for mayor in the municipalities and to have primaries for the councilors.
Commenting on the pressure reportedly being brought to bear by some prospective candidates who are asking for primaries, the party’s National Electoral Commission president Lidio Cadet assured that there was no crisis within the party, despite suggestions by the opposition.
At the end of the meeting, PLD general secretary, senator Reinaldo Pared Perez confirmed that in the case of the PRD there would be alliances at a general level but the agreement excluded the municipalities of Santo Domingo North, Santiago, San Cristobal and Moca.
The meeting was headed by President Danilo Medina, former President Leonel Fernandez and his wife Vice President Margarita Cedeno, as well as Pared Perez.
