Government employees now fear losing their jobs with the change of government to take place on 16 August. According to Hoy newspaper, sadness, resignation and uncertainty are the dominant feelings among most of those listed on the public payroll. ?We are all crestfallen,? said one of the employees of the Ministry of Agriculture, where neither the minister nor any of the major department heads had arrived to work. The electoral hangover was evident in the Nation Budget Office, the Institute for Price Stabilization and other offices located in the 14-story building known as the ?Huacal.? Some longtime employees have become accustomed to government turnovers and are less concerned. ?Manuel,? a 14-year employee of the Ministry of Finance, says that a person should merely wait until the new bosses decide what they are going to do. And so begins what will be, for some, three very long months of waiting.
