Residents of Urbanizacion Los Rios in Santo Domingo are protesting at the new free daily newspaper MetroRD for basing its operations in the neighborhood. The neighborhood association says they had informed the company that they were in violation of neighborhood rulings that establish that only residential buildings no more than two-stories high can be built there. The residents have taken the case to the National District municipality, which has already ordered the company to cease its operations at the Urbanizacion Los Rios address. The neighborhood association says that MetroRD directors have ignored the ruling.
The residents are asking “on what moral grounds can the newspaper call on others to respect laws if they themselves do not?”
