Farmers met on Saturday, 31 October 2015, to call for more actions for the agriculture sector. The farmers complained that all the attention is focused on the chosen few that benefit from the so-called “surprise visits” of President Danilo Medina.
They complain that the institutions called upon regularly to assist farmers are hard pressed for resources, rural roads are in bad conditions, there is lack of irrigation, and mechanization equipment, there are no tractors, there are problems with access to markets and the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI) does not take preventive actions despite the drought.
