The Emergency Operations Center (COE) has increased the number of provinces under a green alert for floods and mudslides to eight, due to heavy amounts of rainfall across different parts of the country.
The provinces under alert are La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro de Macoris, Monte Plata, Greater Santo Domingo, Sanchez Ramirez, Hato Mayor and El Seibo.
According to the National Meteorological Office, the rains are a result of a tropical wave located in the Mona Channel. The storm is moving westward at around 24 mph and should clear by tomorrow.
Nevertheless, more rains are forecast for this weekend.
