Citizens in the Dominican Republic have just gotten a big break. The Central Electoral Board (JCE) that is in charge of the civil registry announced that as of January 2016 birth certificates and other vital records no longer have to be “legalized”. The process required long queues and extra costs.
Making matters better, the new electronic registry systems allow the documents to be issued in all provinces and the National District. The JCE announced the documents will be issued free of charge.
As reported in Diario Libre, political party delegates consulted said the measure will decentralize the civil registry services and decongestion the offices.
