A joint operation by the Attorney General’s Office and the Customs’ Agency (DGA) has led to the confiscation of more than 100 million illegal cigarettes that were found in a private warehouse, Transporte Done, at kilometer 22 on the Duarte highway.
The building’s owner, Leandry Jose Llames, was arrested during the operation.
The cigarette brands included Capital, Pacific, Loreno, Poker, Royal and Director, none of which carried the tax paid stamp, the name of the manufacturer or the government health warning.
So far this year there have been more than 30 raids to try and find illegal cigarettes and more than 50 million have been confiscated.
