The French embassy in the Dominican Republic has opened up a book of condolences following last week’s terrorist attacks in Paris that left at least 129 people dead.
Foreign Minister Andres Navarro, former President Hipolito Mejia, the president of the Constitutional Court Milton Ray Guevara and Environment Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez were among the first to express their condolences.
An altar has been set up outside the embassy where people are leaving flowers and lighting candles in memory of the victims.
The book of condolences will be open all week until noon on Friday, 20 November 2015. However, it may remain open longer according to demand, and will be sent to France next week.
A source at the French Embassy says that security has been increased with more police officers on duty.
