Insurance brokers concerned at accident rates

In response to concerns about the high traffic accident rate, the Dominican Association of Insurance Brokers held a workshop at the El Embajador Hotel in Santo Domingo yesterday, Wednesday 18 November 2015 in search of solutions to this problem. According to the association members, traffic accidents not only cause pain and expense for Dominican families, but they also bring losses to the insurance sector due to the increase in claims from these accidents.

During his keynote speech, Mateo Terrero Reyes, a member of the Highway Action Foundation, presented World Health Organization statistics that show that the Dominican Republic is ranked high in the region in the number of traffic accidents. Nevertheless, he said that these statistics can change, but the country needs political will for this to happen, in addition to citizen awareness and the support of the private sector.
