The Listin Diario reporter Candida Acosta asked Elena Viyella de Paliza about the proposed tax reform and got this answer: CONEP feels the state should present its tax reform proposal before next month. The determined business leader explained how the private sector wants the new reforms to guarantee investments and the ability to compete in open markets, consequently creating more jobs.
Viyella de Paliza said that until now there has been no concrete tax proposal, but that it must be submitted soon, as there is a special opportunity with the IMF Standby agreement presently being discussed. The CONEP president feels that now is the time to deal with all the economic problems, especially the IMF Standby Agreement, and the tax reform package. At the same time, she proposed a salary increase for workers and asked the National Committee on Salaries to meet promptly to review the minimum wage issue.
