According to President Danilo Medina, the Dominican Republic is a founder member of the International Alliance for Generating Solar Energy, an initiative led by India and France aimed at generating sustainable, green and clean solar energy.
The announcement was made in Paris yesterday, Monday 30 November 2015 at the 21st International Conference for Climate (COP21). The signatories to the alliance are looking to reduce the cost of financing solar power and enable more solar power to be installed in their respective countries.
In order to do so, the member countries commit to creating innovative public policies and programs to develop the capacity and financial instruments to raise the more than US$1 billion needed for investment by 2030 to incorporate solar power on a massive scale.
