Christmas trees protest government corruption

Citizens in the National District, Santiago, Puerto Plata, San Francisco de Macoris, Bonao and La Vega and in cities in the east and south, joined hands to form human chains as part of a nationwide day of protest against corruption organized by civil society group Poder Ciudadano. The protestors also decorated Christmas trees to symbolically represent the cases of corruption and impunity in the Medina administration yesterday, Wednesday, 2 December 2015. Acento reports that this time, the protestors were not met with police brutality.

The demonstrators are calling for the shutdown of the OISOE public works construction office, which has been riddled with corruption scandals in recent governments.

One of the trees was decorated with apples that bear the names of alleged beneficiaries of impunity.
