Quevedo case began in February 2015

National District prosecutor, Yeni Berenice Reynoso said on Thursday, 3 December 2015, that the case against the Unatrafin transport union leader Arsenio Quevedo began in February 2015, and not now. The case was merged with that of Pedro Brand councilor Ericsson de los Santos who is accused of ordering contract killings. The case acquired notoriety when it was revealed that suspended judge Awilda Reyes had ordered the release of De los Santos, who is still in jail. Quevedo is being accused of heading a ring of contract killers.

“While it is true that the councilor was the operational party, it was Arsenio Quevedo who planned and decided who was murdered and when, according to our investigations, and that is the point of view currently being held by the National District prosecution service,” said Reynoso. She mentioned that one of the alleged hit men under investigation is a policeman who worked at the Palacio de Justicia in Ciudad Nueva as a security guard for judges and prosecutors. She said that one individual who is helping in the investigation said that policemen were specifically sought to carry out the murders. Reynoso called for a total structural reform of the Police and military forces.

“When I said a year ago that if my memory did not fail me, 90% of organized crime cases involved police or military personnel, there was a lot of criticism,” she said. She commented that the new thing about the recent scandals is that the policemen involved are from recent promotions. Reynoso warned that criminals are being admitted to the police.
