Government spending on farming activities has been cut by half, according to the latest edition of the Vigilantes Agricultura bulletin. The bulletin is an initiative by Articulacion Nacional Campesina (ANC), which has the support of Oxfam and the Global Partnership for Social Accountability (GPSA).
The report says that compared to other productive sectors, the agriculture and livestock sector has received lower allocations of government funds for economic development. As a percentage of total spending, in 2003 the sector received twice as much as it was allocated in 2014. The report states the decline reflects the fact that farming has lost relevance in Dominican economy.
