Tax Agency & Chamber of Accounts to monitor public officials’ wealth

The Tax Agency (DGII) and the Chamber of Accounts of the Dominican Republic, the government agency in charge of monitoring public finances, signed a cooperation agreement on 16 December 2015 for the coordination of the National System of Sworn Assets and Liability Statements of government officials. In a press release, the DGII says that they need to exchange information in order to monitor government institutions and strengthen transparency in the handling of government funds and accountability. The agreement was signed by DGII head Guarocuya Felix and Chamber of Accounts member Pedro Ortiz in representation of Licelott Marte, president of the Chamber of Accounts.

The agreement establishes that upon request, the DGII will supply information regarding the assets of government officials so that the Chamber of Accounts can carry out the corresponding investigation into illicit wealth acquisition in its monitoring processes according to Law 311-14 on the Sworn Asset Statement of Government Officials.
