Five victims of a propane gas explosion in a middle class home in Quisqueya Nueva in La Romana on Saturday, 19 December 2015 have been laid to rest. The apparent cause of death was a candle left on by an elderly family member, Enemencio Cedeno who woke up at dawn to go to the bathroom. The 72-year old was killed in the explosion, along with 40-year old Dignora Caridad Puello, Luz Cuello, 30-year old Aneury Caridad and 6-year old Luis Angel Caridad who were buried in the Guaymate cemetery yesterday, Sunday 20 December 2015. Aneury Caridad was a US serviceman who had come to attend a family wedding.
Other family members 50-year old Hilda Almonte, 84-year old Amelia Cuello and 38-year old Equisiana Cedeno Cuello are recovering from second-degree burns, as reported in Listin Diario.
According to reports, Aneury Caridad died when trying to rescue some of the victims.
