Jose Ramon Peralta “proud of 2015”

The Administrative Minister of the Presidency, Jose Ramon Peralta has expressed optimism that the country has made significant progress and that the government is working hard to resolve the main problems. In an interview with Diario Libre, Peralta described 2015 as a very good year. He said that international bodies have praised the government’s economic policies and good economic performance. This includes ECLAC, which recently pointed out that the Dominican Republic posted the highest GDP growth in Latin America, at around 6.7% in 2015.

Peralta also highlighted that the country is expected to receive more than five million tourists for the first time this year.

He observed that hard currency receipts are estimated at more than US$6.1 billion. He said the free zone manufacturing has grown more than 5.5%. Remittances are at more than US$4.7 billion this year. The construction sector has posted a 17% growth, and trade more than 12%.

Peralta mentioned that 62,000 homes built in public-private partnerships would be completed in 2016.

He pointed to improvements in public health with the ongoing remodeling of 56 public hospitals.
