With the express aim of improving quality of life of thousands of people who live in La Barquita and surrounding areas, the government plans to build a mass transit cable car system, to be known as the Santo Domingo Teleferico.
The project is part of a program to improve La Barquita, with the objective of connecting historically marginalized areas, and which will benefit more than 287,000 inhabitants by providing them with a safe and affordable form of transport.
The Santo Domingo Teleferico will be five kilometers long with five stations: Charles de Gaulle, Sabana Perdida, La Nueva Barquita, Los Tres Brazos and Gualey.
It is to be modeled on the Teleferico in the Colombian city of Medellin, which is used by millions of passengers daily.
