The Medina administration is hoping to get the public to test ride the next Santo Domingo Metro line in time for the 15 May 2016 elections. The new line will link eastern and western Santo Domingo, the east side of the city being home to most of the population, including around 600,000 voters. Santo Domingo Metro office (OPRET) spokesman Leonel Carrasco says they are hoping that the metro will be ready for a test ride at the end of April. In an interview with Diario Libre, he said that the tunnel for the new line that will connect the Ozama River with Carretera Mella has been completed. He said that the new Metro bridge over the Ozama River would be longer than the Puente Francisco del Rosario Sanchez and that 70% of the work is complete. The line will have stations at the Avenida San Vicente de Paul with Venezuela, Fernandez de Navarrete (near the San Vicente de Paul church), Calle Trina de Moya (near the maternity hospital) and Carretera Mella.
Carrasco told Diario Libre that more than 245,000 Metro fares are sold every weekday.
