Old-time swimmer wins in Masters

Forty-year-old swimmer Danilo Vicioso, a resident of Casa de Campo, La Romana, won two bronze medals in the 10th FINA World Masters Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, Synchronized Swimming and Open Water Championship held in Riccione, Italy from 3-13 June. More than 8,130 competitors from 68 nations over the age of 25-94 years traveled to Riccione to compete in the event. Vicioso won bronze in the 400-meter individual medley in the 40-44 age category, clocking in 5:07.95. Peter Berndt of the United States won gold with a time of 4:53. Vicioso also won bronze in the 200-meter butterfly with his time of 2:20.02, while Italian Alessandro Tiberti won the event with 2:15.18.

Vicioso competed in 200 meter butterfly (bronze), 400 meter individual medley (bronze), 100 butterfly (5th place), 3 km open water ocean swim (4th place) and 400 meters freestyle (5th place), 200 meters individual medley (8th place).
