The Ministry of Environment has announced that it has 300 forestry brigades comprising 3,000 rangers who usually work in reforestation and other planting programs but will be drafted to the Forest Fire Prevention and Management Plan.
Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez said that the initiative would strengthen the response to the forest fires that they are anticipating over the next few months due to the drought.
He said that the plan is for the reinforcements to provide both vigilance and protection against fires in every province and if a fire does break out they will be able to provide a rapid response.
He stressed the importance of preparedness and of having a good strategy to guarantee environmental protection, adding that as well as providing the manpower the plan also included liaison with government entities to make strategic alliances to prevent and mitigate the effects of forest fires.
The Minister highlighted that they would also strengthen the area of engineering response by making paths and firebreaks that made the work easier in the event of a fire.
