President Danilo Medina, accompanied by First Lady Candida Montilla de Medina has received the traditional New Year wishes from the senior members of the government and his friends. The reception, held at the Presidential Place started at 11am yesterday, Monday 11 January 2016.
Catholic Church representatives led by papal nuncio Jude Tahdeus Okolo and members of the Diplomatic Corps and consuls in the country, including United States ambassador James Brewster all greeted the President.
National Congress was represented by Senate president Cristina Lizardo and a small group of government ministers and legal representatives included Gustavo Montalvo, Jose Ramon Peralta, Altagracia Guzman Marcelino, Bautista Rojas Gomez, Cesar Pina Toribio, Francisco Dominguez Brito and Presidency spokesman Roberto Rodriguez Marchena,
This year, as last, Cardinal Monsignor Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez did not attend.
