Alianza Pais presidential candidate Guillermo Moreno has pledged to build a country predominantly for the middle class. A country that is fair, safe, democratic and sovereign, he promises.
Speaking to the nation as presidential candidate yesterday, he highlighted that the country has the natural resources and the human talent to develop a model of society that guarantees opportunities for living in dignity, holding a decent job, access to education and quality health services.
He criticized the re-election of President Danilo Medina and said the candidacy means more public insecurity, violence, crime, corruption and impunity.
In the address yesterday, Wednesday 13 January 2016, Moreno said Medina means more deaths from preventable diseases, expensive electricity and fuels, public indebtedness, deficiencies in services, more blackouts, lack of jobs and low wages.
He predicted a second round in the election. “Fortunately, the President’s re-election bid is collapsing. There will definitely be a second round and this is the first step towards defeating re-election.”
He urged voters not to vote for the traditional parties, saying they were part of the problem, not the solution.
He also criticized the inequality of resources for emerging political parties compared to majority parties.
Moreno announced that Alianza Pais would carry out a different type of campaign away from the mainstream parties’ loud traditional campaigns based on political patronage. He said that his party’s supporters would be making direct contact with voters and discussing their problems with them. He announced that thousands of street brigades would be visiting people in their neighborhoods to build together an inclusive local government program and legislative agenda.
