Dominican arrested in United States

According to Police in the US state of Massachusetts, a man wanted for the murder of a police officer in the Dominican Republic has been arrested.

Fifty-nine year old Ramon Aguasviva Mejia, of Lawrence, was being held overnight at the Lowell police station Sunday on arrest warrants from Interpol and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and on numerous local charges.

A police spokesman says the suspect would be arraigned today, Tuesday, 19 January 2016. Police say Mejia has 17 aliases and outstanding warrants from Suffolk Superior Court for drug distribution and Quincy District Court for felony assault.

Police say he was spotted by detectives about 2pm and fled in a vehicle when they approached. The detectives were able to stop his vehicle and take him into custody at gunpoint.
