The fire at the Duquesa landfill in Santo Domingo site was still burning yesterday, Tuesday 19 January 2016 even though the administration said it had been extinguished on Monday. Although there has been some reduction in the density of the smoke, it has since spread over a wider area and heavy truck units are now trying to extinguish the blaze.
According to reports, the smoke is affecting local residents and some have had to move elsewhere temporarily.
