According to the Central Bank there has been an increase in the number of tourists who visit the country from 2012 to 2015.
In 2012 the number of non-resident entrants to the Dominican Republic was 4.5 million that increased to 4.6 million in 2013, 5.1 million in 2014 and 5.6 million last year. Arrivals in 2015 were 5,599,859 travelers, including 458,482 additional visitors in 2015 over 2014 for an 8.9% increase.
Most of the additional arrivals in 2015 were foreigners but 20% of them, 90,169 were Dominicans who live overseas.
According to Tourism Minister, Francisco Javier Garcia, who was attending the International Tourism Festival (Fitur) in Madrid, this year more than 2,000 additional hotel rooms will be built to accommodate the ever-growing number of tourists who visit the country.
