President Danilo Medina has told the press that while former President Leonel Fernandez will take part in his re-election campaign, the main player needs to be the candidate himself.
Speaking to journalists at the end of a vehicular procession known as a political caravan that lasted almost 10 hours throughout the eastern region of the country on Sunday, 14 February 2016, President Medina said that when he had chosen his vice presidential candidate, he or she would also take part in the campaign. The current Vice President, Margarita Cedeno, is the wife of former President Leonel Fernandez.
He said that he would be touring Espaillat (Moca) and La Vega provinces this coming Saturday, 20 February before continuing to Sanchez Ramirez (Cotui), Duarte (San Francisco de Macoris) and Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo) on Sunday.
When asked what he was doing to protect his skin as a dermatitis sufferer he said that he wore a hat and used sun protection cream and that his doctor accompanied him on the political campaigning trips. Someone said that he looked younger and Medina replied: “The people are rejuvenating me”.
